Welcome to the fifth edition
of the Alchemist Lab newsletter.
In this newsletter we want to update you on
3 products Oxymatrine, Lactoferrin, and Ornithine Aspartate
or Hepa Merz. All the clinical studies that we looked at
using Oxymatrine were between 3 to 12 months long. Lately
we have been getting ALT/AST tests back that are normal now,
where they were still elevated for the first 4 to 6 months
of using Oxymatrine. We have been using Oxymatrine since
last July. Because this alkaloid can alter how people feel
so quickly we had an impression that results would come faster
than they have for a number of folks. So using Oxymatrine
for a year will be our new recommendation
Lactoferrin has been the biggest surprise.
Lacto meaning milk in Latin, and Ferrin meaning iron is a
constituent of whey protein. We have been using Lactoferrin
to control high ferritin or iron levels as it has a strong
ability to bind iron. We have found it more effective than
IP6, or any other approach we had previously taken to control
iron levels. Excess iron in Hep C patients has a pro-inflammatory
effect on the liver, because of it's ability to generate
reactive oxygen species via the Fenton reaction.
Anyways the surprise has been that the patients
with high iron levels, generally a group with more advanced
Hepatitis C, many of them have gotten substantial viral load
reductions from using the Lactoferrin. In reviewing the literature
we find that a Lactoferrin peptide can bind directly to a
protein E2 found on the envelope of HCV. E2 binds directly
onto the receptors of human target cells. So Lactoferrin
can directly inhibit HCV from entry into the cells it normally
targets. This research came from a Japanese research team
at Okayama University in 2002. We have just started giving
Lactoferrin on a much wider basis for its anti-viral action
and will report back in again on our results. At this point
we are giving 300 mg twice daily with meals for general anti-viral
use and 600 mg twice daily to control iron levels. We are
actively watching the results to ascertain the best dose,
any feedback would be appreciated.
Lastly Ornithine Aspartate washes ammonia out
of the liver, by stimulating the urea cycle and glutamine
synthesis. Ammonia which is a by-product of protein digestion
interferes with brain function if the liver does not clear
it. This accounts for the dreaded brain fog. OA is extremely
effective at reducing ammonia levels. It is similar to Lactoferrin
in that we started out giving OA in one situation, high ammonia
and we have found it's use more widely applicable. Any situation
where there is poor liver function, liver pain, or advanced
symptoms we are now using this product. We are still working
on an American manufacturer as we are buying this from a
German pharmaceutical company. We are trying to get the price
down to make it more widely available. We have tried many
other Ornithine products on the American market as they are
far cheaper, but we have not found any that work like Ornithine
Aspartate.
We at Alchemist Lab look forward to your feedback
on this new product.
